The Icon of Eternal Prosperity

ICONSIAM, is a mixed-use development commerce on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand. The 54 billion baht (US$1.5 billion) project was jointly developed by Siam Piwat group, a Thai retail developer, MQDC Magnolia Quality Development, and Charoen Pokphand Group.

The ICONSIAM project was designed under the concept of “The Icon of Eternal Prosperity”.

A total useable area is 750,000 square meters, which opened to the public on 9 November 2018.

The ICONSIAM consists of the following important areas:

  • Two large shopping mall buildings on the Chao Phraya River connected together, which has the second largest total area in Thailand after Central World and the second largest total sales area in Thailand after Central Westgate.
  • The tallest building in Thailand: the 70-floors Magnolia Waterfront Residences.
  • The country’s sixth tallest building: the 52-floors Mandarin Oriental Residences.
  • Medium-sized shopping center building connected to the hotel building.

The ICONSIAM was started construction in March 2014 with an initial investment value of 35 billion baht (US$ 1.05 billion), later increased to 50 billion baht (US$ 1.5 billion) and 54 billion baht (US$ 1.6 billion) respectively, making it the highest investment project in Thailand at that moment.

The project won several design accolades since its opening, including:

  • Best Design of the Year at the World Retail Awards 2019 hosted by the World Retail Congress;
  • First prize in the Best Shopping Center category at the MAPIC Awards 2019 in Cannes;
  • ICSC Asia-Pacific Shopping Center Gold Awards 2019;
  • MAPIC Awards 2019 Best shopping center category;
  • One of the top four finalist in the MPIM International Real Estate Awards 2021 in the Best Shopping Centre category.
  • Asia’s Most Innovative Shopping Experience category at the CathayMembers’ Choice Awards 2024
